Frequently Asked Questions
All of the commonly asked questions answered here.
Due to the nature of the process the oils are made in batches there can be slight differences between each batch this can affect the smell, taste, colour and consistency of the oils however, we test all of our batches to ensure that they provide the correct amount of CBD as printed on the packaging. Therefore, any differences between the batches should not cause any concern.
Due to the Government not recognizing cannabis as having any medicinal value- we are categorically not allowed to make any recommendations. If we do, the MHRA and other agencies could consider this as making a claim about our oil as treatment, therefore promoting it as medicine- which is illegal and if found to be breaking these rules, we as a company could be shut down.
The other reason we cannot make recommendations is that we just don’t know. Everybody has an endocannabinoid system, which is the system that directly interacts with the compounds in cannabis. We as humans, have different lifestyles and interactions and as such our bodies will respond differently to the individual extracts- which means what is good for one, may not be good for another. For example, two people with the same condition on paper may respond differently to the exact same extract. This is why we offer a range of extracts in the hope that when you choose our oils, you will be able to find the best to suit you as an individual.
We offer three main types of extract, each sourced from a different category of Cannabis plant- Indica, Sativa and Hybrids (the latter, a combination of Sativa & Indica). These extracts are all full plant extracts, each offering a different cannabinoid and terpene profiles. There are lots of independent groups on Facebook who would be happy for you to contact them for advice, one such group is Herbal Alternatives where users are able to more openly discuss their own personal experiences.
We have many companies who wholesale for us. If this is something you are interested in please email our wholesale team for more information on email@example.com. Please be aware we do not supply our products for white labelling.
The two major categories of cannabis plants are Indica and Sativa and these can then be cross bread to create a third Hybrid category. Within these categories there are thousands of variations much like the grapes used to make wine. Each of the two main cultivars have different ratios of cannabinoids & terpenes – the naturally occurring chemical compounds that develop as the plant grows, which in turn results in their own range of effects on the body and mind, resulting in a wide range of benefits. Indica strains generally provide a sense of deep body relaxation. Sativa strains tend to provide a more energising experience.
We use 3 different extracts grown by licensed growers, in different conditions to make our products.
Grown outside under the sun we have 2 Sativa extracts, the Green Edition which is a Cannabis Sativa and the Blue and Aqua Plus Editions which are a Hemp Sativa. We also have Cannabis Indica dominant hybrid in the Purple Edition, grown on farms in Holland, which contains 70% Indica and 30% Sativa.
Then we have our original Silver, White, Red and Black editions, these all use the same Cannabis Indica extract diluted to 4 different concentrations, this strain is grown under lights in a controlled environment for maximum cannabinoid content and yield, the cost of production is much higher and for this reason the price too, a percentage of the sales from these editions goes toward our companion program.
Finally, our Guernsey Gold editions are made by our first creating a full spectrum Cannabis Hybrid Whole Plant Extract. We do this by taking our organically extracted Whole Plant Extract containing 60% CBD, taken from the flowers of female Cannabis Sativa plants, grown in controlled environments to maximise cannabinoid content and ensure our extracts are of the highest quality. We then combine this with our organic hand pressed Cannabis Indica rosin- in order to achieve the THC levels required to meet Guernsey’s local legislative guidelines.

Sadly, we are unable to offer any advice on the use of our oils for cancer treatment, this is because they are not sold or made as cancer treatments. The Government has a very specific piece of legislation called the ‘1939 Cancer act’ which prohibits any discussion around the use of any treatment that is not state approved. We understand that people will want to do whatever they can to try and beat cancer and the movement around ‘cannabis kills cancer’ is, we are afraid, not strictly true. It is a useful tool but should not be considered under any circumstances as a one stop cure.
As some of us here have been in your shoes and have had or do have this condition we will be happy to have an informal chat but we will not recommend or advise the use of our oils as treatment.
Again, due to the way people interact with the extracts it is difficult to offer advice so we generally suggest that people start slow and build up.
Oil – 1-2 drops for 5 days then adding another drop for a further 5 days until, hopefully, you find a level that helps.
Capsules – Always start with a low does 50mg and work your way up, do this for a further 5 days and increase if need be.
Paste – We would suggest that you use an amount the size of a grain of rice (1 – 2 per dosing) and rub it into your gum, this will allow the cannabinoids to be absorbed into the system. This can be done at any time of day either before or after eating.
These methods will allow the cannabinoids to be absorbed into the system. This can be done at any time of day either before or after eating. Please allow 2 hours between taking pharmaceutical medication and our products. Stick with this routine for 5 days and see how you feel, if you think you need to go a little stronger then add another dose to the routine and do as above for 5 days.
Yes, due to the nature of the extract all cannabis (hemp) based extracts will contain trace amounts of THC. There is an unwritten rule that an amount up to 0.2% is acceptable in the product. However, the Home Office will say that the extract must contain no THC whatsoever but as this is unworkable, and also in such small amounts that it will not have any psychoactive effects, they tend not to act on it; they have far more important things to be doing. All our oils contain trace amounts which can be found on the lab reports.
Our Guernsey Gold editions contain higher THC levels that fall in line with Guernsey’s local legislation. We are extremely proud of these products being the first of their kind in the UK, setting a historic precedent with the highest levels of THC since the institution of prohibition came into force in the 1920s.
No, sadly not at this point as we are unable to process card payments over the phone.
CBD is generally not a controlled substance so in most cases, however, due to the nature of the product some countries’ border forces may consider it to be cannabis oil and, as such seize the product and or you and ruin your holiday, so we advise against it.
Our Guernsey Gold editions contain levels of THC that are not legal anywhere else within the British Isles & travelling out of the islands jurisdiction could lead to presecution.
Payments can be made by Visa or debit card. Card details are never stored on our server. Checkout is secure and provided by our partners at Zion Payments.
Please ensure that the oil is kept upright at all times, in a cool dark place when not in use. A cupboard or shelf should be fine.
Unfortunately this is due to the varying nature of a biological product- sometimes the oil can be quite thick after mixing. If the environment is cool or it has been posted during the winter season, this may cause the oil to be too thick for the dropper. To fix this, please just pop the bottle in a cup of warm water for around 3 minutes until it softens up. If after doing so the issue still persists, please don’t hesitate to get back in contact with us.
Due to the nature of the process- our oils are hand made in batches and therefore there can be slight differences between each batch. This can all sorts from the affect and the smell to the taste, colour and consistency of the oils. However, we test all of our batches to ensure that they provide the correct amount of CBD as printed on the packaging. Therefore, any differences between the batches should not cause any concern.
All mammals have an endocannabinoid system and as such, giving them cannabinoids should help promote wellbeing. HOWEVER, the Vets Association are (quite rightly) very protective about what we can say about treatment
Here at the Original Alternative we consider our pets as our family and as such, don’t do ‘pet editions’ or different extracts for animals as we feel they deserve the same treatment as us and should not be discriminated against with substandard products, an opinion our office dogs Lunar & Patty both co-sign with muddy footprints.
If you’re unsure which product to choose, then you can either take a look at our website for more information or join an independent consumer group on Facebook group such as CBD Pets UK/EU, as users, or more accurately- the user’s humans can openly talk about which products they find useful.
I’m afraid that we at The Original Alternative are not medicinally trained and as such cannot comment on the interaction of other drugs with our oils. As such, what we suggest you do is speak to your GP and ask their advice, alternatively you could look online and see what others have to say, also sites like www.Drugs.com can be extremely helpful in starting your research
Please be aware that all of our products do contain a trace of THC and therefore could give a false positive on a road side or employer drug test. Upon a urine or blood test it should be apparent that there are high levels of CBD not THC however this would depend on the quality of the testing equipment being used and therefore if you feel this could in anyway effect your ability to pass a drug test or jeopardise your employment you should either discuss the matter with your employer or not take the products.

The ingredients in our products vary from product to product, please read the label to ensure you’re not buying something that may cause a reaction. As some of our products do contain nut oil, we cannot guarantee the absence of cross-contamination of nut oil with our other products which may have been made at the same location.
Here at The Original Alternative we are not medically trained and although we have experience in cannabis use we are in no way qualified to give advice on medical issues. Therefore, if you are pregnant we would suggest you talk to your GP.
